7 Secrets 6 Figures and 4 Things to Know About Interior Designer Career.

Interior Decorate

Hi guys welcome to My name is Zahir Shaikh and here we talk about all 7 Secrets of Interior Designer, 6 Figures of Interior Designer and 4 things to know about Interior Designer Career information and  interior designer qualifications.

And you are on this blog because you’re thinking about becoming a student or you’re activist student maybe in your early years and there are some things you want to know for continuing your education or things you want to know about.

If you are thinking about going to school which either category you fit into there’s still Four things I think that you need to know about point is go for design. so let’s dive into it.

1) Difference Between Interior Decorate and Interior Design

Interior Decorate
Interior Design

Your design is very different than decorating and then term interior design gets tossed around a lot when in fact you’re mostly talking about decorating.

So when people are thinking of interior design they are possibly thinking the main stream message is a HGTV the DIY channel the renovation shows on TLC Extreme Home Makeover and those things actually have actual interior design aspects in them.

But they’re not necessarily super fun to watch so the shows will play up all the decorative stuff because that’s what people want to see the end result but so much goes into redesigning in space and building a house that’s math science psychology that people aren’t really seeing on TV.

So they think it’s just super fun to decorate and decorating is really fun and you do need to be a good decorator to be a good designer you do not however need to be interior designer to be a decorator.

So what that means is generally most people in most states you need a certification to be able to call yourself an interior designer if not you then have to call yourself into your decorator.

If you don’t have the CADdatian so that is going to be the there’s like I think I am that you take it’s pretty hardcore like how someone has to take the bar to be a lawyer you have to pass medical exams to be a doctor same thing to be in tears.

I know there’s like a huge test that you take and and two designers are going to do things like knocked on knocked on your wall beside where your outlets are gonna go what’s your HVAC system always look like.

That’s the air conditioning system and a decorator is just going to do things like thick finishes and oh you know what pillows what furniture what rug are you putting here what drapes are we doing here you know that is super fun.

But again it is decorating not design. Design is borderline architecture and when you’re in school you think that you’re learning about how to you know put this these colors together how to put this rug with this throw pillow you were never ever going to take a class on how to decorate ever instead in school.

You learn all the theory behind cut like color psychology why would something go with something you learned about space planning you learn about lighting and the psychology of lighting.

The science of lighting and you knowing all this theoretical stuff then you’re able to implement it and put it more into helping you decorate. But there’s never a decorating class that you take specifically

2) Qualified to be an interior designer

career after 10th

So the second thing I want you to know about goings for interior design is that there are some schools that have accreditation and some schools that do not so the creation comes from the National Council of interior designers qualifications that’s NCIDQ.

And what that means is that there are huge group of people who are  designers themselves and they study everything and they pull in all the roles that are required for you to really be qualified to be an interior designer and then they make sure that the school’s got their backing meet all those meet all those benchmarks and such.

So that way they know that students that are graduating from this school are upto the rigor of their standards so if you go to school that does not have that then they’re not Const being tested or benchmark and check by.

I believe that check every three years out of school and school in the schools of work prior to then show projects of these where our students are doing and then will say oh you know these project that your students have turned in qualify or match. What we’re looking for in our students.

But there are schools that have pseudo certification in service that don’t if you’re just looking to be an interior decorator then I would just go with the school that doesn’t have it it doesn’t look it.

Because they don’t the program will probably be less rigorous than it does and not everyone has to go into being into your designer or even being an interior decorator.

So there are some schools that don’t have it or people will go into staging a set or home staging for a real estate or interior styling for photo shoots or there’s just so many other things that you can do with a design degree that has nothing to do with actually actively working with clients.

So if you’re actually interested in the blog in that let me know and comment down below because I would be interested in letting you guys know what other career paths.

There are that haven’t had nothing to do with actually being an interior designer but you can still do it with a degree right.

3) Need portfolio for Interior Designer career

So this I have never seen in anyone elses blog. But it’s very true for me and I would imagine that’s true for other people is you do not need a portfolio to get into your design program I repeat you do not need a portfolio to go into an interior design program.

4) school for Interior designer career

school for interior designer

Fourth thing that you need to know about going to school for design and that is you it doesn’t have to be your first interior designer career choice.

some people come into it from fashion and fashion is perfectly like very very adjacent to interior design but a lot of people even told themselves they’re like you know it’s like a second or third interior designer career choice for a lot of people.

So if you’re feeling discouraged because you’re like oh man I already spent time in school for this thing or I had these other jobs and I don’t have any relationships with anyone do not let that discourage you.

Because it is not a first career choice for everyone a lot of the blogs I’ve seen are people coming straight out of high school.

A lot of people here are just doing the same thing so they completely understand your position so do not let that discourage you and those are my four things that you need to know.

So remember you don’t need a portfolio you don’t have to have it be your first career choice you might want to look into whether or not you want to go into a Cetus certified school or a seat are not accredited school.

And you know that there’s a difference between design and decorating and decide what school you want to go to based on what it is that you want to do.

Lets Talk About 7 secrets to a six-figure design business

7 Secrets To A Six-Figure Design Business

Designed for a living I just thought I’d give you this little bonus blog to go along with your free ebook the 7 secrets to a six-figure design business because I want to make sure that I cover all of the topics very clearly I really want this to work for you.

If you love design if this is your passion there probably is if you found me on my website that I want you to have the same opportunities that I patent.

But other designers have had I want you to learn how to take this hobby and make it a career so this short blog and the ebooks it’s not going to tell you everything you need to know to start a design business.

But I am going to hit the highlights I am going to hit the parts that will make or break you these are the secrets to successful designers. These are the key points that if you can remember these really process it it’s going to set you ahead of your competition.

1) Talent and Skill

skill of interior designer

So number one starting out very very simple come up with a plan right well you might not know it but as a designer there are so many things that you need to ask yourself and you really need to hammer out.

Before you even take your first client because if you try to be everything to everyone you’re just going to be mediocre as everything I want you to really focus on the things that you’re good at.

I want you to focus on who it is you really want to work with I want you to really done in on your talent and your skill. That’s the way you set yourself apart and you can make a bigger splash in the design world.

So starting really with the basics you start with a name you want to call your business who you want to serve what areas of town you want to work in dream about the kind of projects you want to work on do you want to get window treatments do you want to do staging do you want to do redesign historical renovation.

Whatever it is I’m telling you to put it down on paper start taking that dream and the wish and the hope and commit to it put it down on paper and make a plan for your new business and then we’ll just start following it step by step. You’ve got to have that plan right off the bat alright.

2) Start This Whole New Career From Scratch As a Interior Designer

dekstop for factorial design

Number two keep it simple like it just up there now what I mean by that is you know i hear a lot of excuses and here well as soon as my website finished or as soon as I finished design school or as soon as

I take more classes or as soon as i saved up enough money to completely quit my other job and start this whole new interior designer career  from scratch.

At the end of the day those are just excuses what you really need if you want to design for a living you need a name for your business you need a great business cars you need your cell phone and you need a tax or resale number.

And that’s just part of the industry that’s just tells the design world hey I’m serious about this I’ve jumped through hoops and paid the35 or 45 dollars to get my tax ID number so that I am a professional.

So that if Ido want to go open accounts at a design center I am truly legit as a designer I think this seriously and I will mark things up I’m going to collect a little information I’m going to pay my taxes.

So it even if you don’t do that side of design just tagging it will show the rest of the design world that you mean bitten so it’s just that simple.

Don’t ever think it you don’t have to have a website to start designing you don’t have to have a degree to start designing.

in fact most of the famous designers you hear about do not have a degree in design they just kind of really a great knack for working with people a really good sense of problem-solving and of course great taste.

And I just wanted to get out there and express themselves creatively and help people that’s what being a designer is so quit negative skews is create that plan and then just go for it.

Whether it’s part-time whether it’s full-time whether you’re doing this on weekends or in the evenings. You can do this but quit making excuses and quit over thinking it just keep it simple all right

3) Do Not Design For Free

Career From Scratch As a Interior Designer

Number three list my big secret is you don’t need to charge when you first go out to meet someone now do not design for free , don’t design at first house call to you that don’t look like marketing.

I need to get in I need to see the space I need to see if we’re a good fit I need to see if they’re really serious about hiring the interior designer career .

There’s so many questions that I have for them that I need to get in this space look at my down talk business and see if they really want to work with you.

otherwise you’re going to end up you know wandering around their house giving them free advice and they’re just going to steal your idea.

So that’s a really big problem the design industry but it all comes down to that first house call if you don’t charge for that first house call but you think of it more as a fact-finding mission.

But you’re there to kind of investigate and see what this project is about and see if you really want to work with this person you don’t need to charge for that hour of your time but you’re also not giving them your design talent.

What you are giving them is confidence you’re giving them assurance that you can help you’re giving them that that the idea that you know tonight.

We’re going to designer to be fun it’s not as crazy as I thought it’s not as scary this person isn’t judging me they’re just here to help all up asking unfold at that first house.

Well if you do it right so you don’t have to try to make your money at that first house goal if you do you’ll end up scaring away clients and I promise you I have been called many times you say well gosh the other designers charge for this.

How come you don’t why would i charge I’m not I’m not designing for you yet we need to see this is good a good fit. So one little tip trust me on this person I believe button and it will make a big difference in your business okay.

4) Struggling Designers That They're Chasing Clients

Struggling Designers That They're Chasing Clients

The next secret and tip that I really want to stress because again I see one of the biggest problems struggling designers that they’re chasing clients they’ll take anyone well I’ll be honest not everyone is ready to work with the designer.

We are kind of a luxury item all right not everyone has a personal shopper not everyone you know has a home chef not you are there to help them with their home but  it’s not for everyone.

So I want you to do this for me right there next to your plan I want to describe your ideal client if you have kids are they a busy professional that doesn’t have time to shop are they someone that just bought their first dream home and they wanted completely renovate this older home.

I mean whatever it is whatever you want that person to be write it down are they lay back are they to the point and business like you know whatever that is write it down then I want you to think about what size projects you want to work on.

So you’re just starting out you might be afraid to tackle a kitchen or to knock down walls and that’s okay you’ll get there but think about the projects that you want to work on.

And here’s a really big tip most people aren’t the impression that they have to spend a lot of money to get a beautiful house and we know that it’s not true today’s market.

There’s great furniture everywhere there’s affordable furniture everywhere great design is all around us with that in mind you don’t have to go after these mansions to make an amazing living as a designer.

You don’t have to have this huge client list of mega rich people they tend to be a bigger ping but of you know a little bit more laid-back client so you want to make great money and still keep your sanity trust me on this okay.

5) Control The Entire Process From The Very First moment
